Zingari: Route Of The Gypsies by Deben Bhattacharya These excellent recordings capture the essence of the wandering Gypsies on their routes through Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Spain, France, and Macedonia. Deben Bhattacharya was one of the world's leading authorities on folk music, song and dance and classical music in Europe and Asia. Since 1955, he has been producing educational and documentary films, records, booklets, and radio programs. Deben Bhattacharya comes of an old Bengali Brahmin family, settled in Benares for the last 130 years. He has won international recognition as an expert on ethnic folk music. On hundreds of reels of tape and innumerable photographs, Mr. Bhattacharya has brought back in sight and sound the age-old culture of remote corners of the globe where folk song and dance had not been touched by modern civilization.
"A musical reflection of the life of the Gypsies. The dance music evokes the lively gypsy dance seen in the movies - the swirling skirts, bright colors, the beauty and mystery that the culture seems to embody. The folk songs share the traditions of the nomadic life with the listener."
