Sarband - Llibre Vermell De Montserrat

Posted By MiOd On Friday, December 11, 2009 Under
I am at heart, a very agnostic person with an ambiguous spirituality, but spiritual nonetheless. This album cuts through any religous preconceptions one may have when thinking about buying what is generally termed "religous music". This album contains a breadth of sorrowfull, yet beautiful cantations that tug at your soul.

In particular, track number 6 always brings me to tears. Its seething hymns of both alto and soprano voices juxtaposed within each other really make one think of a cloudy sky that hides the sun from our gaze.

Whether you are a follower of the Christian faith or not, this music transcends all religous conviction.

Selections in this recording are based on the manuscript "Llibre Vermell de Montserrat" (The Red Book) from the Santa Maria de Montserrat Monastery in Spain.
